I purchased this set in August, 2009 and absolutely loved it. It looked great on my kitchen counter until this morning (six months from purchase date) when I walked to the kitchen in the morning and found the holder split opened from the bottom all the way up to the top. The utensils have held up well, though; therefore, I give this product some credit, but I am disappointed that the holder didn't last for too long.

I have wooden spoons, but bought this bamboo set when I purchased a new electric wok. They are just perfect for stir-fry, and won't scratch the non-stick surface of my wok. I really like the size and shape of the rice paddle, and I thought that would be one piece I wouldn't use. It is just right for serving rice. Best of all, they are dishwasher safe, which is not the case with most wooden spoons. So far so good!

I love this stir-fry set, though I have to say... I've NEVER used it for stir-frying! I've used it for just about everything else in the kitchen, though. Even the shorter rice paddle has come in handy for all sorts of things (it's fairly flat, so you can even use it like a spatula). Also... It's sooo cheap! I feel like I should order a few more sets, just in case. I've already gotten it for friends and family to throw into a Christmas stocking or to wrap up with a cookbook or pan. The best part: they are dishwasher safe! I've washed mine over and over and have never had a crack. Awesome product.

I just received the steamer and immediately put it to use.(after I washed it).

Well, it took just minutes to steam some carrots, broccoli and cauliflower! The taste

is incredible. I used to put my veggies in aluminum rather than boil, but that had a tendency to

dry them out. I should never have waited so long to buy one. I had no problems with smells or anything? Don't hesitate. I can't wait to try it out on some fish or chicken. I bought the parchment paper I put in it from Amazon too.

Good quality bamboo steamers. 2 stacks and a cover lid. 10-inch size is big enough for 6 ears of corn - 3 on the bottom and three on the upper stack. (BTW they cooked faster than my electronic steamer which it replaced. I timed it for 20 minutes and they were all cooked evenly.) The cover lid is made of 2 layers of weaved strips of bamboo so no steam is coming out from the top. The handle does not heats as much so you can touch it with your bare hands during cooking. No piece of metal has been used, no staples, no nails, no tacks.

Water does not condensates directly on the food as the steam permeates the bamboo and flow back to the pan along the sides. It does not evaporates as much as the water just cycling back and forth inside the steamer. Healthy way of preparing your food as you don't use oil in the process. Just make sure to use some parchment paper if you have to cook something that may stick like dimsums, etc.

I have my own bambu steamer which was given to me as a gift. I use it to make dumplings and it works great. My friend also wanted one and I could not find it in any local stores so I ordered it from amazon. It was a great gift, she's been using it ever since. She's made dumplings, steamed veggies and fish. This is actually two tongs of different sizes, with a smaller one that can be nested inside the larger one if you want to store them. They are both made of good quality bamboo (no large blemish on mine) and the edges and surfaces are all nicely smoothed. Overall I am happy with these tongs and have been using them in my kitchen. I wouldn't use them on spaghetti since they offer little control on the grip strength and may break the spaghetti, but for fried chicken they are superb and free me from the thought of chemical melting due to high oil temperature.

I must note that I received them through the generous Vine program and so I didn't pay for them. In this regard I find them a tad expensive at the time of this writing when compared to another bamboo tong that I got from a very large supermarket at quite a bit less than half the price of this set of two. This makes it difficult for me to recommend this set, even though I still think it is a five-star item in terms of quality.

These tongs are great for cooking. I especially love using them on my non-stick wok (Great for flipping shrimp!)! They are also great for reaching into the toaster without burning your hands. These tongs also look quite nice and work well as a serving tool as well! I always handwash them- so I cannot speak to the durability after any number of dishwasher cycles.

In most cases I am all about the bamboo. Every since getting my first Totally Bamboo Kauai Cutting Board and changing over my wooden spoons to bamboo, I have been on the lookout for things in my kitchen I can replace with bamboo.

Not only is it ecologically friendly, I find bamboo to be beautiful and just as useful as any other wood. (although bamboo is technically a grass and not a wood). Some of those expensive olive wood spoons look fantastic but you can buy a full set of equally-beautiful bamboo spoons for the same price.

Unfortunately, while bamboo might replace other woods, apparently it doesn't replace metal. Because these "Tom Douglas by Pinzon Bamboo Tongs, Set of 2" just don't work very well as a set of kitchen tongs.

You get two tongs in this set, one wider and flatter and the other longer and narrower. The tongs are fairly stiff, being a flexible wood rather than being hinged. There is no lock function, and it does take a bit of effort to manipulate them and keep them closed. As expected, they look absolutely beautiful, but are just not useful enough.

Because of the stiff action, I had trouble using the tongs to navigate more delicate items. They were fine for gripping something solid, like flipping a steak, but I had a more difficult time picking up my deep-frying tofu and keeping it intact. Anything that can be mushed will be mushed by these tongs.

Cleaning them is also a pain. The "griping" action is achieved by a series of grooves on the bottom of the tongs, but anything grooved gets packed with food pretty quickly when cooking. Not only does this reduce their ability to grab food while cooking, I had to take a knife to the grooves in order to clean them out. I have since heard that a vegetable brush could do the trick, and that sounds useful, but still an extra cleaning step I don't really want to take.

For non-stick pans or places where you don't want to scratch with metal tongs, these might serve as a viable replacement. But there is no way they will become the primary tongs in your kitchen allowing you to toss the other ones out.

I really like these tongs. Between the pair, they are long enough to handle pretty much any tong task, yet manageable enough to be used deftly. I think they would do fine in the dishwasher, as I have bamboo cooking spoons that I wash that way regularly, but as suggested, I put them in with my hand-wash dishes to make sure they stay nice. Because they are so attractive, I have used them only for salads, veggie trays, and other table-service tasks at this point (I have metal tongs to use for cooking), but they are very well finished, smooth and with nicely rounded edges, and I think they would do fine with hot foods and cooking, as well. They do not open as widely as my metal tongs, a potential drawback but not one I will downgrade them for, as they are not designed to do so (it would be kind of like downgrading a paring knife because it wasn't as big as a chef's knife). Like many who enjoy cooking, I love nice kitchen gadgets, and these are a very welcome addition to my utensil drawer.

This thing is great. I am very spatially challenged, so I had trouble picturing the size and how it would fit into a pot. I do not own a wok. Well, my pots were all too small, so I've been using my electric skillet, which works perfectly, but the nonstick surface gets a little screwed up from boiling water in it.

I really like that you can either use both tiers or only one. So far I've made an entire dinner of stringbeans and frozen won tons on two tiers (came out great), fish and veggies on two tiers (that time I boiled the water off by accident so it had a bit of a strange taste, but still pretty good), and lots of broccoli and other veggies on just one tier. I put parchment paper down every time so I don't have to spend much time cleaning, and that works great.

My only suggestion is that amazon/the seller include a picture of the steamer inside both a pot and a wok to see how to properly use it. I searched online for days for a diagram or picture like that, and then I finally bought it anyway because it was so cheap.
